Stephen Ministry is a program of lay pastoral counseling and caregiving founded by Rev. Kenneth C. Haugk at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri in 1975. Stephen Ministry is active in more than 9000 congregations in over 100 denominations.Utica UMC offers care through a confidential, lay-caring ministry grounded in Jesus' command to love one another. Those who are hurting receive love and support through one-to-one caring relationships.

HOW CAN I REFER SOMEONE TO STEPHEN MINISTRY?
A friend who walks beside someone who is hurting and takes the time to listen.
A lay Christian selected, trained, and supervised by Stephen Leaders to provide effective Christian care.
A person who makes a commitment including 50 hours of training, ongoing supervisory meetings, and an average of one 1-hour visit per week with the person receiving care.
One who recognizes this as a confidential ministry.
